Exotic Cuisine of India
produces sophisticated and elegant food. Bombay's cuisine could
grace any major city in this country. Every item was fresh, interesting,
and healthful, and the dinner offered spicy, sweet, and cool dishes.
I invariably select tandori chicken and lamb tikka in Indian
restaurants. "Tikka" means that the meat, chicken, or
fish has no bones and is cut into pieces. The biggest hit was
the eggplant bhartha. Roasted eggplant was puréed, seasoned
with the chef's secret masala, and cooked in a spicy tomato
curry sauce. Two people can have a wonderful nonmeat dinner here
($7.95 each).
Ten types of bread
are prepared at Bombay, all baked to order. They range in price
from $2.00 to $3.50. The keema naan, filled with spicy
lamb, and the chicken naan are as filling as small pizzas.
I
made an absolute fool of myself over the lassi, a chilled
sweet or salty drink (I had the sweet) prepared from fresh yogurt
and puréed mango, topped with pistacio flakes. Bombay is a shukriya
(blessing) to our community.

Bombay
Takes Indian Cuisine to New Level
They
are the brother and sister team of Anil, Rick and Ashley Popat,
and together they have taken Indian cuisine to a delicious and
exciting new level.
They
are the owners of the extremely popular Bombay restaurant (former
Monsoon), in the heart of bustling Hillcrest. Together with
their accomplished chef "Jagu", the trio saw their
restaurant evolve into what it is today. The owners decided
to focus solely on Indian cuisine. With that the name was changed
and the restaurant was remodeled into a beautiful, contemporary
eatery, complete with a stunning wall waterfall, plants and
Indian decor and outside dining.
For
lunch I recommend the great buffet for $6.95. There is a great
selection of Indian naan breads that would go well with the
likes of chicken curry soup. Entrees to note are the tandoori
chicken, marinated in yogurt sauce with fresh ginger garlic
and spices. There's validated parking at Bombay, which you'll
find next to the theaters.
